Robotic dairy tour attracts 50 participants to Onondaga County farm.

Fabius, NY.  They came all the way from Booneville, NY to see this.  Robotic milking.  Two years ago Tom Trinder installed a robotic milking system at his farm in Fabius with great results.  The robots are only part of the story at Trinder Farms.  The rest of the story involves computer gateway pasturing, organic farming and, wind power.

Participants got a full tour of Trinder’s farming system that exemplifies sustainable agriculture and how a small dairy can flourish economically.

Some of the benefits of the robotic milking and computer grazing system have been higher milk production, cow longevity and very low veterinarian bills.  The benefits to being organic have been a premium price for Trinder Farm milk, eliminating pesticide exposure to his employees and neighbors and, the return of earth worms to his fields.

The tour was organized by CCE Onondaga County Agriculture Educator Erin Hull and supported by Onondaga County.

4H Public Presentations at OCC

On May 11,2013 Onondaga County 4-H Youth will be providing presentations and displays to the public showcasing their animal projects from horses to chickens from 10 am – 1pm at the Tractor Supply Company Store at 3580 Route 31 in Clay, NY (str0140@tractorsupplystore.com.)  Also visit your Tractor Supply Company Store at 6641 Manlius Center Rd, East Syracuse, NY (str0172@tractorsupplystore.com.) to support the campaign.  Come join us to support our youth!

The spring 2013 4-H Paper Clover Campaign will take place May 8 through May 19, 2013 at Tractor Supply Company (TSC) participating stores across the nation.  For the first time of TSC and 4-H’s partnership, shoppers at the Tractor stores in Clay and East Syracuse New York will have the opportunity to support 4-H in by choosing to purchase paper clovers for a $1, $5, or more at checkout. All funds raised will be donated to 4-H, and will support 4-H youth development program activities in Onondaga County
