FREE ENERGY ASSESSMENTS

NYSERDA’s Green Jobs – Green New York program offers free and reduced-cost residential energy assessments to income-eligible owners of 1-4 unit residential buildings.

Here’s how it works to see if you are eligible.  You must be an owner of a 1-4 unit residential building and have a total household income at or below 400% median income ($257,200 in Onondaga County).

Free assessments are available to households with incomes below 200% median income in ($128,600 Onondaga County).  Reduced cost assessments are available on a sliding scale to households with incomes between 200% and 400% of the median ($128,600-$257,200).

Complete a program application; download an energy audit application (pdf) here.

Also you will need to provide a summary of the annual electric and heating usage for the building.  Call NYSEG and your heating fuel provider to request 12-24 months of previous usage.

Review and select a BPI-accredited energy efficiency contractor within Onondaga County.

If your application is approved you will receive an audit reservation number to give to your contractor.  Applicants have 90 days after receiving their reservation number to have their energy assessment completed.

Visit the NYSERDA Green Jobs Green NY website for complete program details and application instructions.

You may also qualify for other financial incentives (loans, subsidies, and tax credits) to help make your home energy improvements affordable.  To learn more about this and other incentives a FREE 2-hour Save Energy, Save Dollars workshop provides energy information for homeowners and renters faced with higher energy costs.

Participates will learn about low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy and reduce their energy bills.

They will also learn about programs that can help them afford energy-efficiency improvements with subsidies, low-interest loans or free services to qualifying households.

These workshops are FREE and open to the public. Each participating household will receive a free energy-saving kit valued at $15.00.  The kit contains weather stripping, shrink window insulation, outlet and light switch gaskets, and more.

Pre-registration is required so please add your name to the workshop signup sheet today. The workshop will be conducted by John Melnick, from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County at (315) 424.9485 x 241

EmPower New York workshops are sponsored by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) and developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension and NYSERDA.
