U. S. Route 20 (Cherry Valley Turnpike)

Legislative action between 1797 and 1800 called for a public road from the Town of Cherry Valley to the outlet of Skaneateles Lake.  A state road from Cazenovia to Skaneateles was laid out through Lafayette in 1801.  In addition the Highway Record Book of the Town of Onondaga in 1800 describes the road running through the Town of Onondaga.  The Cherry Valley Turnpike intersected with the Hamilton and Skaneateles Turnpike (NYS Route 80) in the Town of Marcellus.  (Note: Town boundaries at the time do not necessarily reflect town boundaries of today.)
